Moss Table generates electricity through Photosynthesis.
Here electricity is generated from the electrons captured by conductive fibers inside the moss table. The technology turns energy that would otherwise be wasted in the photosynthesis process into power that can be put to practical use. (by Biophotovoltaics)

My parasitology professor would love this, he’s seriously always talking about using plants for electricity and such.

THIS is cool.

I would love to see this become the reality it implies. It would be a true testament to the power of this current trend to interdisiplinary projects in the sciences.

I am a bit confused about it, I get that there would be a genetically engineered moss that produces energy more efficiently than wild-type moss, but where does the CO2 come from? Is the table open on the bottom, or are the gasses being formed by the bacteria breaking down dead moss? Also water is being synthesized by the electrodes right, why isn’t that the water being used to support the moss? The diagram seems to show an open system. Overall it would still be an improvement to modern commercially available energy (well, once the output of a table the size show increases about 104 times from what it is now) but could stand some fundamental design changes.

This is really cool. I can see giant moss plants generating power one day. Aesthetic tech is always awesome. On another...
